People are starting to put up photos on Facebook from the conference I went to last week, and well… let’s just say I’m not too thrilled with what I’ve seen so far.
I’m sure the same has happened to you. You get tagged in an embarrassing Facebook photo, and aren’t sure what to do about it. Now, thanks to a Facebook app called I Shred U!, created by Staples, you can have the last laugh!
How does the application work?
I Shred U! is very simple. Once you have logged into Facebook to access the application, you select from two options – you can virtually shred a photo complete with animation and sounds effects, or you can “trick out” the photo by adding mullets, beards, speech bubbles and more. You then select a photo from one of your albums or a photo that they you’re tagged in and get to work! When you’re done, you then have the opportunity to send it to a friend with a personalized message. Personally, I preferred to “trick out” rather than shred my photo, as you can see from this photo where I put a virtual paper bag over my head:
Does the application actual delete the photo?
No, it doesn’t. The photo is the property of the person who originally uploaded it to Facebook and it will continue to live in his/her photo album. I Shred U! is just a fun way to make a statement about unflattering photos that you were tagged in.
Is there a similar application on Facebook?
No! With more than 200 million active users on Facebook uploading over 850 million photos each month, the Staples I Shred U! application is the first of its kind to allow users to virtually shred bad photos without actually deleting the picture from their friend’s Facebook album.
Over 25k Facebook users have installed the new Staples I Shred U! photo application in the last month. It’s being used in 30+ countries, average engagement is over 2 minutes, and 70% of the users are women over the age of 25.
I’m not sure if that last one is because women my age have bad body image issues or just a better sense of humor. I’d like to think it’s the latter! 😉 Here’s a screenshot of the application’s homepage:
So take a moment and try this fun Facebook app! You might just want to share it with your friends!
